So I am kinda bumed we didn't get that field kitchen set. So, if anyone can turn me on to another set reasonably priced, I will set up my jeep trailer just like the 3rd I.D. did with theirs.
That way the whimpering nit picking know it alls from the other units can untwist their nickers, and get over our farby hospitality.
Big Bear is the best time to have the kitchen, as it is also close enough to simply drive the jeep and trailer up there. Ward, do you have a list of what the set consists of? Maybe I can even just part it together.
What do you gents think?

What do you gents think? I think that that is a fine idea. I don't have a list, but I think Derek has "the bible" in all things kitchen. Bill informed me that Gunner has a field kitchen he might be willing to sell, but the number was a bit high for both Chuck and myself. I like what Derek has been posting... I haven't shown them to Chuck yet (he's signed up on the forum but never uses his computer). Frankly, as far as the kitchen goes, anything is better than what we were forced to do when we had to resort to Slicton's RV. I'm honestly surprised "certain people" from "other forums" didn't complain about that. Bitches be hoes. I think it might be good for Bill to fix the gas regulator on the stove we attempted to use in the mean time while we work on getting a period correct one. In the end prepping and cooking a hot meal kicks the pants out of illegally burying used cans food in the forest any day.

i'll keep posting stuff...i did find a diagram of all the contents of the 20 man cookset...can't remember where the hell i saw it..lol but it was great had all of the contents laid out..pots and pans lids and untensils...honestly it all looked like modern commercial equip (which for food prep I would be more comfortable w/)
anyway i'll keep digging

Perfect Bidus! Thanks for the layout! Looks like my local surplus store has most of this stuff. Do you know what kind of stove this set takes?

Fox you can see the stove in the picture it's numbered 17. one of the guys who was in the fly tent this weekend had one. it has two burners and four metal wings that fold out to stablize the stove and to hold the pots. it was tiny and would take forever to cook something for our group.. I would stick w/ what Bill has and some how camoflage the propane tank in a crate or something.
secondly, i would be careful about surplus pots and pans as I believe the standards for what is allowable in pots and pans has changed from the 40's and for health reasons would be cautious, that having been said i do think all of this stuff is available in modern equivilents, with little or no loss to authenticity. for example if you look at my first post to the 20 man cutlery roll, this can easily be filled w/ modern knives, tines and ladles
my 2 cents

Well I didn't plan on buying pots made of lead lol! The local surplus store has kitchen items made in the 80s for our Military. Most of it is stainless steel and aluminum, and would definetaly be safe to cook with. At the same time it looks exactly the same as pictured above. Plated metals are what you have to worry about too.
The stove does sound whimpy. Might just get a good Colman from the market. It would be easy to hide it in the trailer set up. I also want to get a good coffee maker! lol! I always feel bad buming coffee from Allan and his little coffee pot! Lol!

I see the burner on Ebay a lot. Theres a surplus store called M&I in Pomona that might have one there too. They might have everything as a mater of fact. My local sore has the pots and silverware.
Might as well get a Colman if the M42 burner is too whimpy. I should head down the hill to M&I soon and see what they have. Thats a good surplus store if you have never been to it. They have WWII stuff there as well. Kaiser Bills is just down the street on Gary Ave off the 10 Fwy.

Right now, I have the transmission and a bunch of oher parts all over my garage. She was supposed to be in a Memorial Day parade, but even after 65 years, the Japs are still fighting back

He says the stove works. He has a complete set and happens to have an extra stove. So, if $60 is a good price, I will get it.

Its actually a WWII field kitchen stove might be too big tho its the type that is most commonly seen in the back of the mobile kitchen truck...get the idea?
Edit: The 9th may have a couple of those 2 burners also.
