The Annual Battle of the Bulge event was held at Camp Taquitz that sits roughly South East of Big Bear Lake. The Few allies that stayed for the weekend slept in cozy cabins with a wood-burning stove. We had 5 guys in attendance. The Germans slept in the meadow at the site. There was some snow on the ground which added to the experience. On Saturday, we had about 16-20 guys on both sides. There was much unit cohesion and teamwork in the field while attempting to hold the objective of the water tower. The Germans as usual fought hard but there was much allied progress in the department of working together. The Germans would probably get the point in the win column for this weekend because they were able to push the allies off of the objective and continue to push. Sunday morning was spent with the about 6 allies facing off against 6 members of the 12th SS. It was a good little skirmish for the day and fun was had by both sides.

The consensus was that the numbers were low due to the closeness of the event to Christmas and that many decided to save their money for the March Roberts event. Hopefully in March many more will be able to attend and make it as great as possible.

Was that all we had on Sunday, German wise? It seemed like we had a bit more on either side than 6 on 6. Either way, I thought it was some of the more interesting fighting of the weekend. The best was lying in position waiting for Germans to pop up and nobody on our side said anything. We just waited for them to come.

I think it was something in the neighborhood of 7v7, then we were reinforced to make it 9v7 or so.. Hard to say, because ammo was short for both sides and some Germans dropped out. I think a couple of GIs also thought it was over early and packed it up, too.

I think it was evenly matched in the end.
