Yeah they have the straps that could attach to your ammo belt as well as straps to hook up your shovel and bayonet. I though it was wierd when the guy who was trying to sell it to me as army gear. It looked different. Bu tafter looking at the pics it looks to be the Marine haversack.

Is it khaki? Then that's a solid price. Especially if it's in good condition.

If my memory serves me right, I think it was around that color. It's been a while since I saw it. The doesn't take it out unless people ask to see it so I know it's still there.

But I have $0 like almost literally. My checking account got broken into a few weeks ago and I got into a 4 car crash on the freeway last tuesday. So I'm a little short on the money front right now. I should still be able to make it out to the January event though.

Oh and the second thing in the photo wouldn't happen to be that their helmets are painted? Didn't Marines have the helmet covers or did they also paint their helmets?

But on the other hand, I say it's because of the absent EGA on the HBTs.

You are learning well, young padawan. It is the fact that they have painted helmets. Typically this was an army thing.

I got a PM from Mayo re: this battle:
Quote:
Most of the 34th ID guys go as The 7th Regiment of the 1st Marine Division Charlie Company. Info for your guys the marines all wore P41 utilities and helmet covers. Toward the end, some units got P44's, but very few units did. Also they religiously used helmet covers after Guadalcanal. Feel free to ask any question you may have by either posting them here, or here - http://acgunz.proboards.com/index.cgi , or via a PM on either forums.

Not a lot on their forum yet, but there's a few handy things for sure. Always happy to have a helping hand, makes this feel more like what it's supposed to be - a reenacting community.

As a side note, I find myself getting more excited for this event than the upcoming one in January.

Hmm, good to know that other units are indeed part of a community and not competition. That is kind of him to lend some advice.

BTW, I too am getting pretty excited about this event.

Winchester Model 12 Trench Shotgun...love it.

Whats always kinda farb (imho) about PTO battles is the marines from prior battles always looked clean and tidy with the just off the boat look, the original pics speak for themselves, marines were grungy half -nekked killing machines. I can understand not wanting to dirty up a uniform, but its a marine impression, marines were known for adapting, and being dirty! Theres a pic of Boston somewhere from a PTO event wearing a wool shirt with the sleeves cut off eating an ice cream, albeit the ice cream is out of place but the uniform is spot on with what marines did.

Take some face paint, lamp black, or just plain dirt and dirty up your face and there you go.

Totally agree! Dirtier the better! Almost all USMC pics I see are of filthy, tired, unshaven Gyrenes! I think I will be doing some yard work in my utilities to rough em up a bit. Really typical of guys to be unshaven too. Little less spit and polish in the extra humid jungles. I will try and find some more pics of marines that look all scummy.

Here are some more Marine pics. Notice the condition of their utilities and overall appearance.

A good example of what the Marine haversack would look like when complete. It also includes the Marine suspenders. Otherwise we can use most of our Army gear.

Dang, i forgot how cool the USMC shelter half looks. And that reminds me that I need to get army shelter halves, too.

But, I just remembered, isn't Rob's big tent (I think it's Rob's) marked USMC?

I was excited about the Marine reenactment before, but now that I have the Military channel and watching all the WWII Marine specials I can't wait to get in this reenactment!!!

I don't know why it punched me in the face all of a sudden, but I'm really looking forward to this one!

The lower part of that pack system was dropped for combat. There is some more info here:
